We are looking for people who are interested in building the world's first replicable open source self-sufficient decentralized high-appropriate-tech permaculture ecovillage - to transcend survival and evolve to freedom.
Please see our weblog for an online journal of theory in practice at our land-based facility: Factor e Farm.
Feel free to sign up and add research and content to the Wiki to help Open Source Ecology develop the Global Village Construction Set! Read the wiki instructions for help.
If you like what you read here please consider supporting Open Source Ecology through volunteering, spreading the word, or donations.
Add OSE as a friend on your social networking sites and tell your friends! See our facebook page, myspace page, twitter, and identi.ca. We also have pictures at Flickr.
Introduction
The Open Source Ecology Wiki is dedicated to the collaborative development of a basic and robust open source high-appropriate-tech infrastructure of technology and permaculture for a local economy based 'Global Village', as embodied in the list of the products and services of the Global Village Construction Set. This 'village' is inherently:
- one which promotes the highest autonomy and freedom
- grounded in self-sufficiency
- dedicated to voluntary pursuits, right livelihood, and quality of life
Our basic assumption for a 'Global Village' is that humans are capable of transcending the struggle for survival and resource conflicts, where this preoccupation is replaced by higher pursuits of personal and societal evolution. Evolve to freedom.
Factor e Farm is the land-based facility where we put the theory of Open Source Ecology into practice. Factor e Farm is not a factory farm. Why e? It is a transcendental number. We aim to transcend. We push towards open source. Factor 10 reduction in price. Or at least e. Ten times cheaper means ten times the freedom. It is Factor e improvement in quality of life. It is technology for ecology.
We started with 30 acres of raw land in rural Missouri - a former soybean field. We paid our last electricity bill three years ago. We are getting our power from waste vegetable oil and the sun. We drink pure free rain water. We grow most of our food. We are free. Welcome to our life. We want to help others do the same. Decentralization. Regain control of your life. Be your own boss. Evolve to freedom.
The Factor E Distillations videos help explain the concept of Open Source Ecology, the Global Village Construction Set, and the development at Factor e Farm. See the Factor E Distillations page to watch the videos and check the blog for the latest updates.
