Universal Burner Unit

Contents
Basics
- A Collection of all combustion devices, and associated equipment
- Used for any sort of permanent / semi-permanent installation
- Mainly electrical power, hot water, and perhaps steam will be produced
- Compressed fluids (Air, Gasses, Hydraulic Fluid, Water) may be possible via coupling pumps to the shafts
- Allows for use of any fuel:
- Biomass
- Liquid Fuels
- Gaseous Fuels
- Also modular and upgradable
- Also integrates exhaust treatment which prevents pollution (not too much of a concern if only one person uses ose designs, but if widespread adoption... (also commercial/industrial use may mandate this) )
- More complex than most needs, but the OSE Dream Home and perhaps small commercial/industrial uses could benefit from it
- Page, Concept, and even the title still a work in progress FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED
- May also want to integrate some sort of:

Rudimentary Components
Biomass Processing
Two Stage Grinder
- This is so ANYTHING burnable and roughly cellulosic can be "thrown" in, ie no pre clipping/reducing needed (short of log size...)
- Open Source Shredder
- Open Source Garbage Disposal
Charcoal Pellet Production
- Open Source Continuous Charcoal Production Device
- Open Source Charcoal Powderizer
- Open Source Charcoal Powderizer
- Perhaps add removal hoppers at each stage? not needed really, but may be nice for refueling small mobile devices
Burning Units
External Combustion Engines
Charcoal Burner
- Open Source Hydronic Stove this will be the "phase one" use (Perhaps move the heat exchanger etc?)
- Open Source Fluidised Bed Combustor this will be the "phase two" use
Gas/Liquid Burners
Internal Combustion Engines
- Open Source Turbogenerator used for burning gasses ( RCNG and perhaps Hydrogen ) , and liquid fuels
- An Open Source RCCI Engine or Open Source Flex Fuel Engine / Open Source Multi-Fuel Engine / Open Source Fuel Agnostic Engine could be used
- Think Upgraded Biogas , Hydrogen , Syngas from a Charcoal Gasifier or Pyrolysis Kiln could all go in a Gas Manifold, then have conventional “flex fuel” Fuel System so Gasoline or Alcohol Fuel Blends could be injected there
Exhaust
Heat Recovery and Reuse
- Universal Heat Exchanger (or multiple if doing gas-liquid AND liquid-liquid) feeding
- Air preheating
- Secondary steam generator/pre heater
- THEN TEGs for the last little bit of extractable heat
Exhaust Processing
- A Car Catalytic Converter could be used
- Some Wood Stoves and Pellet Stoves are designed with simple “two way” (oxidation of Carbon Monoxide and Unburnt Hydrocarbons ) which given they are typically placed in a rectangular slot, or in the Stovepipe , this may fit better into the overall UBU sustem
- If feeling extra fancy, perhaps an Air Scrubber of some sort, although this leads to liquid and/or solid waste which may be hard to process?
- Piping into a Carbon Dioxide Enrichment system and/or a Compressed Carbon Dioxide use for pneumatics, chemistry, and drink carbonization?
Ash Processing/Handling
Ash Removal
Ash Processing
Leaching
- Not well developed at the small scale
- Lab Glassware could be used for small scale (tops out at 5 Liter Flasks or so)
Sintering / Vitrification
- This could potentially be done in an Electric Furnace or Arc Furnace
- Looking into conventional Sintering or Hot Isostatic Pressing type equipment as well is a route to look into
- The goal with this would to be reducing the Leaching potential of the ash (especially Bottom Ash , Fly Ash tends to be less contaminated and usable for Fly Ash Cement etc)
- The result would be a Basalt/Lava Rock type Construction Aggregate or Non-Hazmat Waste to Landfill
Misc
- A "Supercharger” (especially Screw Compressor or Roots Blower ) for compressing air for improved combustion in all devices
- May not be needed if compressed air is already adequate, or if this is unnecessary
- Oxygen Concentrator PSA ? for Oxy-Fuel Combustion ?
- Hot water tank and/or solar pre-heater
- Optional steam input from external sources like solar thermal
Inputs
- (Hot?) Water
- Air (compressed?)
- Liquid Fuels
- Gaseous fuels (Mainly RCNG , Hydrogen and even DME , but liquid fuel fumes, Propane, LPG etc can be used as well)
- Biomass
Outputs
- Hot(-er?) water
- Steam (Dry and/or Wet?)
- Electricity (Unprocessed 3 Phase Electric? Essentially whatever comes off the generator(s) )
- Potentially Via Hopper and/or Output tube/auger:
