Open Source Ecology is a movement dedicated to building the world's first replicable, open source, modern off-grid global village. Has one already been made? If so, please tell us about it. We are farmer-scientists developing a world class research center for decentralized technologies. By using permaculture and digital fabrication together to provide for our needs, and open source methodology to allow cheap replication of the entire village, we hope to transcend survival and evolve to freedom. By our analysis, most of the technologies needed for a sustainable and pleasant standard of living could be reduced to the cost of scrap metal + labor.
There is immense potential for social transformation once this technology is fully developed for building interconnected self-sufficient villages, since people will be freed from material constraints and able to seek self-actualization. Factor e Farm is the land-based facility where we put this theory into practice. We understand that this is an ambitious task, but we have accomplished much and are making rapid progress. Our means of achieving these goals are meticulously detailed in the "Global Village Construction Set". More

Introduction
The Open Source Ecology Wiki is dedicated to the collaborative development of a basic and robust open source high-appropriate-tech infrastructure of technology and permaculture for a local economy based 'Global Village', as embodied in the list of the products and services of the Global Village Construction Set. This 'village' is inherently:
- one which promotes the highest autonomy and freedom
- grounded in self-sufficiency
- dedicated to voluntary pursuits, right livelihood, and quality of life
Our basic assumption for a 'Global Village' is that humans are capable of transcending the struggle for survival and resource conflicts, where this preoccupation is replaced by higher pursuits of personal and societal evolution. Read more
