  1. Recommend modifying script so the exact same phrases from TED talk are not used in univ presentation as well
  2. Recommend focusing on why OSE is unique in the engineering community -- focus on sustainability, rapid engineering/rapid prototyping, forward documentation & publishing standards, etc. Emphasize how we are different than standard engineering practices
  3. Discuss how working with us will benefit the student...the "greater good" message is there, but there are other benefits too such as hands-on engineering & prototyping experience, team work, networking with other engineers, problem solving, etc.
  4. Include a 'Get Involved' slide...with contact information of TCM, etc...a call to action

Steps: Set up a video conference with interested parties, OSE needs to streamline and implement the Product Development Process, once chapters are partnered with projects we will send a press release/blog/etc. I believe we should also outline responsibilities to better define the relationship
  • DPV update--DPV Tracker
  • Heard back from AARP -- we have been invited to post opportunities on the Create the Good website and database

Fri, 11 Oct

  • Attempted to call Business Visa Center with no luck--45 min on hold to be disconnected. Going to research on line further about process for B1 applications.
  • Printed OSE volunteer flyers
  • Loaded prototyping files to thumbdrive in preparation for laser cutting -- had to download a program (edrawings) that views DXF files ---however, this program converted the file format as well. Will need to find a work around.
  • Received tour of Hammerspace and was shown their extensive capabilities. Completed membership. Worked with Dan to show me how to create the files to prepare for the printing. Found out 2D sketchup files would work as well. The printer at Hammerspace works best when these files are converted to pdf.
  • Had to buy materials so we can use the large laser cutter. Source: Utrecht Art Supplies 4144 Main St, Kansas City, MO 64111

Phone:(816) 531-8410, Hours: Friday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm -- only about 20 minutes drive from Hammerspace. Purchased 1/8" thick cardboard for plates and thinner card stock-like material for tubing. The preferred paper for the tubing was not available, but cost 1/3 the price (about $2.50 per sheet).

  • Worked with Craig at Hammerspace to lay out the design and sequencing for the tubing cut. Test cut looked good, but there was minor movement with the paper. Re-sequenced the cutting to minimize movement. It took approximately 1.5 minutes per tube with the large cutter. The smaller one would be faster but would require more time to set up.
  • Downloaded free 2D drawing software- Inkscape
  • Created Ironworker Problem Statement -- need help with drawings or pictures/examples
  • Updated Events page and Design Sprint page with Ironworker Problem Statement link
  • Data point for using the large laser cutter to cut 52 plates using 1/8" chitboard is ~10 minutes

  • DPV interview with Cyril - has concerns over tourist Visa...would like a J1 or B1 visa & our sponsorship; need to review 22 CFR Part 62 (Exchange Program Visa requirements / sponsor responsibilities); the application fee for designation as an exchange visitor program is $3,982; this fee is non-refundable; however, we meet the requirements for a B1 visa: need to contact the Business Visa Center tomorrow: (202) 485-7675, Hours: 8:30am to 5pm (EST), Monday – Friday. MTF.

  • Worked with OM to obtain Hammerspace membership. Hammerspace membership also includes membership to CCCKC activities.

He will train me on the machine's use; cost is 50 cents per minute if I wok the machine; he will help me set files for printing, etc. They have wifi at the facility. The CNC plasma cutter can do 4x4 steel tubing. They would need to develop a jig to align the axes--cost will be about 50 cents a minute; this machine has controlled access and we would need to arrange the work in advance. I will get more information about this on Friday.
  • Facilitated DPD Meeting and updated status and tasks Daily Product Development Meeting; need to streamline the meeting, expectations, etc -- to help make production meetings productive; DPV Work Plan
  • Updated Staff Meeting slides

Earliest availability is Wed or Thurs. They also have 11" bolts (50 in stock). They would need to be plated as well (earliest availability is Monday). Cost is $3.25 per bolt, but the plating charge for small orders is $80, bringing the cost of the bolts up higher ($5.50 per bolt).
