Overview
A 3D printer is an additive manufacturing technology that enables automated construction of complex assemblies via layered deposition. The technology is similar to a 2D XY printer, but with the addition of a Z axis.
While 3D printers are additive, they bear a close resemblance to CNC milling machines which tend to be subtractive (cutting away).
